Hi Vivian-- Thanks for the kind and thoughtful words...yes, the image, taken in the country side of Ireland, can evoke a dark almost sinister emotion...or perhaps even one of pastoral solitude...a means of protecting a sanctuary from trespassers, depending on who and in what context at any given point in time, it is viewed....but I believe the greatest power of art of lies in the ability to realize a complex, and yes, often ambivalent set of emotions simultaneously...in ways that words mere cannot convey. If you are acquainted somewhat with of the history of Ireland, it is in itself, a land of many and deep contradictions. As an artist, probably one of the reasons, I am so drawn to it... The powerful metaphorical symbolism of a simple piece of barbed wire harmless draped to mend a gate, can invoke strong emotional response. For over 100 years, Northern was occupied by British Troops...often, barbed wire barricades were employed for "security"....to me, it is and always will be a symbol of repression... Best Regards, Michael
